Inspiring Automotive Women Day Is Back, And Bigger Than Ever Before!
The UK Automotive 30% Club, founded in 2016 by Julia Muir CEO of Gaia Innovation with the aim of filling 30% of key leadership positions with women by 2030, will be bringing their annual Inspiring Automotive Women Day back this year and it promises to be bigger and better than ever before!
2019 sees the fourth Inspiring Automotive Women Day, and this year it is kindly sponsored by Volkswagen Group UK. The exciting day event will be hosted at the Volkswagen Group UK National Learning Centre in Milton Keynes on Friday 3rd May, with 100 female secondary school pupils aged 12-15 from across the UK attending. Pupils will hear from over 40 Inspiring Automotive Women volunteers from across the UK Automotive 30% Club member companies, including Volkswagen Group UK, Auto Trader UK, Jardine Motors Group, Inchcape, JCT600, Lookers Group, Marshall Motor Group and Vertu Motors Plc.
Pupils will engage with the IAW volunteers to hear about technical skills required in the motor industry, advanced new technologies being developed, the importance of people and communication skills, the range of jobs available within the industry and to hear personal stories from these ‘real model’ women.
New for this year, Inspiring Automotive Women Day will be enhanced with reach-out activities in 30 schools across the country. UK Automotive 30% Club members will be engaging with primary and secondary schools in their locality, and speaking to them about the wide variety of jobs and opportunities available within the automotive industry. Our target is to reach over 1000 female pupils.
Julia Muir – Founder of the UK Automotive 30% Club said
“This event mobilises a powerful network of women in the sector to spread the word that the motor trade is a great place to work, and has become an important date in the automotive calendar. It is also hugely enjoyable for both the girls and the women taking part. I am very grateful to VW Group UK for their sponsorship of the Inspiring Automotive Women Day and hosting the main event at their National Learning Centre.”
Alex Smith – Managing Director at Volkswagen Group UK Said
“Inspiring girls at a young age to consider the breadth of careers in the automotive industry is vital to achieving longer term diversity in our organisation. Developing and keeping them is key, but if we don’t have that pipeline of young talent, we’ll never move the needle for good. Initiatives such as the Inspiring Automotive Women Day are a great way to kick off the search.”
