The Campaign Plan

The Campaign has two parts:

  1. Visits to schools (Primary and Y7 secondary works best) throughout the year by your female volunteers, arranged by you, supported by materials from us if you wish to use them
  2. A LinkedIn campaign in October to feature your female volunteers and as many automotive women as possible!

The purpose is to showcase a huge variety of automotive women and tell their career stories.

Your Own Activities

Plan your school engagement activities:

  • Register your volunteers with Inspiring The Future to start to build long term connections with schools
  • Decide if you’re doing in person or “digital” visits
  • Make contact with schools you already know NOW
  • Identify your volunteers and agree the visit date
  • Review the presentation we will provide for you to personalise and use if you wish
  • Create posts in the lead up to your school visits to promote that your inspiring automotive women are visiting schools this autumn – on all your social channels and selected customer communications
  • Take a photo during your school visit and tell the story of the visit, including any impact data you have collected. Tag us so that we can reshare it
  • Don’t forget to include the hashtags #ThisGirlIsMe2024 #IAW2024 #Auto30Club #EarlyCareers on your posts, and tag the Automotive 30% Club.

What we need you and your volunteers to do

The Automotive 30% Club’s #ThisGirlIsMe2024 LinkedIn Campaign will take place from Monday 14th October to Friday 18th October 2023.

During the week, we are asking all the women of the automotive industry to:

  1. Post a picture of themselves as a girl (either as a little girl, or as a teenager) to publish on LinkedIn
  2. To support the image, we are asking them to write 250-300 words talking about their own ambitions at that age and (New for 2024). stating what they thank their younger self for doing, that helped them to be the woman that they are now

Please do encourage others to join in by tagging the women who inspire you to get involved. Use the hashtag #ThisGirlIsMe2024 and remember to tag the Automotive 30% Club in your post.

Example of text accompanying a This Girl Is Me LinkedIn post:

“This girl wanted to be a firefighter and then a fighter pilot in the RAF but she was told women didn’t do those jobs. Then when she was older and at university, Perrys Motor Sales Ltd came to look for graduate hires, and other students said "women don't work with cars". But Perrys said they did, and so this girl started out on her successful 30 year automotive career. #ThisGirlIsMe.

To mark International Day of the Girl, I would thank my younger self for choosing to ignore pressures to conform to gender stereotypes, and for seeking a career in an exciting advanced technology sector, rising above those who laughed, belittled, criticised, spoke over or tried to undermine her for being different and rocking the boat. Her resilience, persistence and determination is what made me the woman I am today.”
