Alex Smith, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group UK Ltd speaks about Inclusive Leadership in Automotive. In this session, Alex highlights the importance of recognising the need for change and explains more about what Volkswagen Group UK is doing to support diversity and inclusion, pointing out the important part that men also play in this journey. Alex details the importance of data, being realistic, setting targets, and sticking to them but also remembering to be open and to take responsibility.

Maria McDowell, Founder of Lollipop Mentoring spoke about some of the barriers that black women face along with highlighting some of the stereotypes and behavioural expectations of black women. Maria also explained more about what employers can do to take action and spot potential, before speaking in detail about the positive impact of mentoring.

Sophie Oak, Communications Manager at the Automotive 30% Club was joined by Alice Smith, Girlguiding Advocate, Vittoria Cavarero, International Business Student at The University of Liverpool and Michelle Wells, Director of Brand Strategy and Corporate Communications at Keyloop to speak about the impact of our Automotive 30% Club outreach activities. Vittoria and Alice spoke about how their encounter with the Automotive 30% Club through our outreach programmes helped to raise their awareness of careers in the automotive industry and Michelle explained why she would encourage others to run their own school engagement programmes.

Eddie spoke about 'Inclusive Leadership in Retail', highlighting the actions taken within Arnold Clark to create a diverse culture where everyone can thrive. Having spoken about the importance of sponsoring women, Eddie was also joined by Group People Director and '30 by 30' Lead, Carol Henry as part of their live Q&A session. Eddie's talk highlighted lots of key actions to be considered by our retailer members.
