Meet Naomi Day, Divisional Financial Controller at Porsche, High Luxury, Toyota & Lexus Division, Jardine Motors Group and IAW Award Winner for 2019
Naomi has worked for Jardine Motors Group for eighteen years since leaving university and has climbed the ladder from Accounts Assistant to her current role as Divisional Financial Controller.
She has covered a variety of roles within the business including dealership accounting, group corporate accounting and managing the groups largest acquisition.
Naomi fully supports her female staff and other women around the business. She has several working mums in her team and has built a trusting relationship with them so she understands if they have to drop everything when they have an emergency at home. In return for this flexibility, they are extremely reliable and will always get everything completed to an excellent standard. She believes if you can get that trusting and open relationship with a female employee they deliver above and beyond expectations and they really appreciate the understanding and support from the company. In addition, she promotes her female accountants as part of the Jardine Finance Academy, which she set up in 2018 and this is a platform for them to shine to our directors.
Naomi explains what has inspired her in her career: “I heard Dame Helena Morrisey speak as part of the 30% club and that was a real lightbulb moment in my career. Instead of trying to mirror successful male counterparts, it made me realise I needed to work to my strengths and being myself is actually good enough, even in a male dominated industry such as motor retail.”
On hearing the news of her award win, Naomi commented: “I feel very privileged to be part of these awards. I am really touched that someone in the company has nominated me for this and I am thankful to my team for all the support I receive.”
