Today, we hear from Clare Wright, Group HR Director at Jardine Motors Group, and sponsor of the Inspiring Automotive Women Awards!
Clare describes how it felt to be recognised as a winner once again, and urges women to aim high, have a plan and don't let anyone ever tell you, you can't! She also explains why Automotive 30% Club Founder, Julia Muir is an inspiration to her, by helping to change the perception of the industry around gender.
How did you feel to be nominated by your colleagues in the Inspiring Automotive Women Awards 2021 and how did it feel to be one of our winners?
I was incredibly honoured to be recognised once again by my colleagues it's very humbling to be a winner.
What is your job and what does it involve?
I am responsible for our 3000 colleagues as Group HRD, I am responsible for supporting with the development and delivery of overall business strategy, composing the HR strategy aligned to this and delivering against this. This follows the full employee life cycle from how we attract talent, how we retain them and how we continue to develop them. Overarching this I am responsible for ensuring we have an inclusive culture.
How long have you worked in the sector?
I have had two stints in the sector the first one early in my career where I spent 10 years and then more recently I've been with JMG for nearly 7 years.
What do you like best about your job?
The variety no day is the same and seeing the difference our people make to our business.
What are your future aspirations?
As I started my career in a commercial role I would eventually like to be a CEO or COO.
Can you name a woman in automotive that inspires you and why?
Julia Muir really inspires me for the work that she's done over the last six years and the momentum she's gained around changing the perception of the industry around gender.
What makes you happy?
Feeling that I am fulfilled in my personal life and work. My husband John and two toy poodles, Lola and Mabel especially make me happy.

"But why?"
What is your worst trait?
Being a workaholic
How would you like to be recognised (as an inspiration to others)?
For individuals to be able to talk about the difference I've made and the tangible benefits of this.
What advice would you give to women who are wanting to progress in the sector?
Aim as high as you can, have a plan and don't let anyone ever tell you, you can't. Ask for help there are plenty of people who are willing to support. Also be yourself and play to your strengths.
