“I am delighted to be representing Lithia UK as an Automotive 30% Club patron member.
Our sector has historically been shaped by more traditional perceptions, but here at Lithia UK we are actively working to break down those barriers and stereotypes. Our goal is to create an inclusive industry where everyone can thrive, regardless of gender.”
My background has been shaped by my experiences within industries with significant gender imbalances. I studied engineering at Imperial College in London during a period when the male to female ratio was in excess of 10:1. Whilst we have seen improvements in many of these industries it is clear there is still so much to do.
I have mentored four female leaders via the 30% Club and have also seen many of our own female leaders benefit from being mentored by senior leaders from outside our industry so I can see how positive the impact of focusing on this opportunity as patron can be.
As a company, we understand that success lies with our people, aligned to our mission of “Growth Powered by People.” We appreciate that to make genuine change, women must be embraced in the company’s culture, valued, and above all, given opportunities. Gender equality goes beyond minimum levels of hiring women; it’s about providing opportunities for them to grow, lead, and establish their own legacies.
Mechanisms that help fuel this change include our leadership programs, such as the Ignite Women in Leadership Apprenticeship Program. It is designed to develop and promote women as leaders in the workplace by giving them the skills, self-esteem, and opportunities to succeed. In turn, this investment not only improves the leadership pipeline; it also creates an organisational culture that appreciates and seeks diverse ideas and innovation.
Paul says:
“Diversity and inclusion are not just aspirations, they are essential to building a stronger, more innovative workforce. By championing gender balance and creating opportunities for women to thrive in the automotive industry, we are ensuring a more successful future for our business.”
To earn the status of being industry leaders, we must commit to the creation of possibilities and lifting and recognising the powerful women who are changing the future of automotive industry. We know that meaningful change doesn’t happen overnight. Through consistent action, collaboration, and commitment to our values, we can build an industry that is truly diverse, equitable, and thriving.
